the programs on the table as harry reid said some time ago. my criticism is not that the president is not willing to compromise. i think the president is willing to compromise. my point today is i do not want us to continue to see this as left-right. we need to see this as we the people holding these officials accountable to reach a compromise because there is too much debt is at stake. you should be incensed that congress recessed early yesterday to go home in the middle of this crisis. that to me is an outrage. what does that say how seriously they take in this cliff will face on december 31? it will have an enormous impact. we should hold the members of congress -- we should do our homework and become educated so we can bring about the accountability that seems to be missing from this debate. host: this is drake on twitter. this is big guns. host: and h. robert asks -- host: back to the column by karl rove in while "the wall street journal." guest: speaker boehner is a very decent guy. he believes in compromise. he is reasonable. we tried to make republicans into a character as

. we're in the u.s. senate. the senate hasn't passed a budget in three, four years. harry reid isn't even at the table and they're having these discussions. but he has a veto for anything that happens. a secret veto. but he's not in the room. the senate got elected, got itself re-elected by not having any votes over the last couple of years. i think if we had c-span, and cnbc cameras in the negotiations, then people could see what the republicans are doing, and the democrats are doing. let's remember what the president's budget is. i bet many of your viewers are unaware, because the establishment press hasn't covered what he's done. he saves a trillion dollars by not occupying iraq and afghanistan for the next ten years. okay. i could save a lot of money by not continuing the war of 1812. but a trillion dollars of the spending cuts are completely phony, because they're from something we already stopped doing. there's another trillion dollars that was agreed to and is in law from the budget control act. he wants to sell you that horse again. he wants to add another savings like that

at the bold, stark facts that since harry reid became the leader here, he's had to face 388 filibusters. and the last time the democrats were in the minority, we forced half as many, which i think even is too much. but half as many. so you have our majority leader facing twice as many as democrats led and it just has gotten out of hand. and, you know, you can stand up here and say it's a horrible thing to try and change the rules, but my test is abuse versus use. and i think if we can come together and avert any type of a -- some kind of showdown at ok corral, it's ridiculous. we don't need that. we can talk to each other as friends. we can figure out some of these commonsense reforms that we can do without having to get angry at one another. i -- i don't think it serves anyone's purpose if we're all angry at one another over this. so i wanted to respond to senator hatch on that. i also would ask unanimous consent that my whole statement about the nomination of jesus spurnell, be put in the record at the time we take up the judges later on in the day. the presiding officer: without obje
